"1984" is a dystopian novel written by George Orwell and published in 1949. The story unfolds in a totalitarian future where the Party, led by the mysterious Big Brother, exerts absolute control over the population of Oceania. Winston Smith, the protagonist, is a member of the Party who begins to question the omnipresent surveillance and the Party's manipulation of reality. Despite the constant threat of being monitored by telescreens and the thought police, Winston starts a secret relationship with Julia and attempts to oppose the regime. However, the Party is relentless in its quest to crush any form of dissent, leading to a heart-wrenching conclusion for Winston. The main themes of the novel include the consequences of totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the suppression of individuals within society.
